I’ve been going to the gym with a friend every morning at 5:15, which is much earlier than I ever considered getting up, let alone working out. My next step will be improving my diet and finally learning that just because I exercise doesn’t mean I can eat whatever I want. For example, I know I can’t eat burgers and fries every day, but it can be the perfect meal, especially after a hard day.

My wife, Rebecca, and I ended up at Farmhaus after first going to Tacocat until I realized that ABD had already published a review of that restaurant. When we arrived at Farmhaus, we discovered it was trivia night, so the restaurant was packed. At that point, I didn’t feel like searching for another restaurant, but Rebecca asked if we could sit at the bar. She’s much better at thinking on her feet than I am.

The bartender greeted us promptly and took our drink orders. We were both feeling a little stressed and decided to order some adult beverages. I got a bourbon caramel milkshake, which tasted great but didn’t seem to contain much alcohol. Rebecca ordered a cherry limeade cocktail, which she said was delicious, but again, it contained very little liquor.

We both chose the build-your-own-burger menu option, which allows you to customize your meal. I ordered a burger with two patties on a white bun with American cheese, lettuce, and onions with a side of fries. Rebecca ordered her burger with one patty, cheddar cheese, onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise with a side of onion rings.

The food was delicious, but neither of us could eat it all, and took the rest home to enjoy later. That’s nothing new for her, but I usually finish all my food. Servers usually ask if I need a box, but I’m just a slow eater. This time, the adult milkshake filled me up.

The service was great, and the atmosphere was fun. She wasn’t paying attention to the trivia questions, but I was. I got one correct about France bordering three other European countries, but I missed one about whether “Titanic” or “Avatar” was the longer movie.

When we went, the restaurant was loud because of trivia night. To be fair, I’ve been to Farmhaus at other times, and it’s usually much quieter. My church even held a men’s gathering at the Flowing Wells Road location, and the restaurant wasn’t very loud that night. Just beware that Farmhaus hosts trivia every Tuesday night, so you probably want to choose another time to hold your business meetings. Farmhaus also offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

The restaurant is a great value. My burger cost only $9, and Rebecca’s cost $5.75, which is lower than the prices offered at similar restaurants. For example, Whiskey Bar Kitchen, another downtown eatery, offers a variety of burgers ranging in price from $12.95 to $15.95.

Even when I start my diet, I’ll still have to get a burger and fries occasionally. After all, I’ve always heard that the key to health and fitness is moderation.
