There’s nothing like sitting down to Saturday brunch, but next month, the Aiken Downtown Development Authority will give attendees a chance to enjoy it while visiting retail shops and restaurants located in that area.
The ADDA will host the first-ever Aiken Brunch Festival on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The non-profit organization’s Executive Director, Haley Knight said the free, family-friendly event will include food trucks, beer, and live music. Businesses participating in the festival include Cork and Cap and Neon Fig.
Knight said most of the participating restaurants will offer a special brunch menu that day.
“They’ll serve everything from typical breakfast items to Charleston-style chicken and waffles,” she said. “Brunch is kind of a popular thing these days.”
The ADDA has wanted to host this type of festival for a few years, but the pandemic put their plans on hold.
“Atlanta has hosted a brunch festival for years, and they’ve been very successful,” Knight said.
One of the organization’s board members visited Atlanta to learn more about how that city plans and coordinates its event.
“Because the layout will be a little more spread out, it will be a really great event to walk,” she said.
Knight expects a minimum of 6,000 people will participate in the Aiken Brunch Festival. She said another large event, Run United, a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon, will be held that same morning and should help to bolster attendance at the festival.
“We’re excited to bring people to downtown Aiken,” Knight said.
