Army veteran shares suggestion on new signs reflecting Fort Gordon name change

A Columbia County man has a suggestion for the metro Augusta area’s new signs reflecting Fort Gordon’s upcoming name change to Fort Eisenhower on Oct. 27. Andy Kingery spotted welcome signs during a recent trip to Tybee Island that included an additional phrase honoring its local Coast Guard base. “I was on Tybee Island and I saw this sign and it said, ‘Tybee Island – A Proud Coast Guard Community,’” he said. “They have the Coast Guard down there and I said, ‘Wait a minute. How about a proud Army

For 25-year veteran, Kelly O’Neal (pictured above) and his retired Naval vet wife, Tiffany, a new mission begins this morning with a ribbon cutting and this afternoon with a radio remote. Their new “mission” is to rally thousands of military men and women from the CSRA and “regular folks” who enjoy good food and drinks at their Rally Point Grille restaurant. “I retired with top secret clearance at Fort Gordon,” said Kelly O’Neal. Now, he must re-earn the trust of people following a decorated military career. They are “accidental restaurateurs,”

ABD has learned through General Perry Smith that the ceremony will take place on October 27. The Eisenhower family requested the event be held in October because it coincides with former President Dwight Eisenhower’s birth date. Thoughts from the General: Teddy Roosevelt is coming to Augusta

All the way from Medora, North Dakota, the 26th President is coming to town. On April 10, he will be speaking at noon, at St Paul’s Church in downtown Augusta. Joe Wiegand is the performer–he looks like, dresses like, speaks like, and performs like the first president named Roosevelt. Ranked near the top of our very best presidents, Theodore Roosevelt can teach us much about decision-making, leadership, and long-range planning. Let’s spend a few minutes examining his life and legacy. When President William McKinley was assassinated in 1901, Vice President

Thoughts from the General: Surrounded by excellence, insights from Emory University

Next month, I will have the pleasure of teaching executive leadership at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. These Emory scholars are pursuing a Master of Business Administration at one of the highest-ranking business schools in the world. The following is feedback from a similar session which was conducted last year. During the question-and-answer period, I realized that I was surrounded by amazing folks—most of whom were smarter than me. The questions were sharp. No one chose to give a mini-speech. Professor Jeff Rosensweig was my host. Jeff has been

The opportunities of renaming Augusta’s fort

When the government launches a commission, count me among the skeptics, but not for this recommendation. This summer, the naming commission created by Congress, recommended Fort Eisenhower as the new name for Fort Gordon in Augusta. The memorandum of approval by the Secretary of Defense indicates that the name change will take place after December 18, 2022, but no later than January 1, 2024. The business community should take note, as the name change is much more than just an Army matter. Changes in signage and branding are among the
