Anderson, Adkins & Company is a local CPA firm with a long history in the Augusta area. The firm is currently managed by Scott Adkins and Ricky Crawford and was originally started by Mark Anderson in 1977. We recently met with Scott and Ricky to talk about how the firm has been able to remain successful after all these years.
They believe the most important aspect of the firm’s success is their staff. They have been very lucky to retain staff for a long time and have kept turnover minimal. They employ about 20 total staff which includes students, paraprofessionals, administrators, accountants, and partners. They currently have six CPA’s in the office, but soon there will be eight as two current staff members are finishing up their certification requirements.
“I have been with the firm 17 years and Scott has been here 31 years, but we also have a handful of employees that have surpassed 20-year milestones and a few approaching 30 years with the firm,” Crawford said.
Another thing that helps keep their business going strong is their constant communication with their clients. The rules and regulations around tax and accounting are constantly changing and they want to be the go-to source for their clients. They also understand each client’s needs may change at any moment, so they personally make themselves available to every client, no matter how big or small.
“We have a saying around here that this is a relationship business with numbers. To us, the best part of what we do is building long-term relationships with our clients. We also know that the number one reason people leave their accountant is because they won’t call them back, we make every effort to not be that type of firm,” Adkins said.
Some of the services their firm offers are individual and corporate tax planning and preparation, financial statement preparation, compilations, reviews and audits, bookkeeping, payroll, business valuations, and litigation support. They also specialize in QuickBooks assistance which can be a reoccurring service or a one-time project.
“Scott or myself meet with every new client before we agree to bring them on board, our initial consultation is no charge and no obligation, but more so, an opportunity for us to meet and discuss the services we offer and how we can cater those services to each client’s needs.”
