Last week, six Augusta National Women’s Amateur Players and a few golf legends spent an afternoon helping more than 25 young golfers from the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Augusta (BGCGA).
The third annual Bank of America Play It Forward clinic was held at First Tee, a place students have learned since the 2021 Masters, when it was built to teach life skills and the game of golf.
The event led to last week’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA).
Six amateur players and two legends from the world of golf, including World Golf Hall of Famer, Annika Sörenstam (pictured above) and Former PGA President, Suzy Whaley led the clinic. The ladies provided the young golfers with professional instruction on pitching, chipping, and putting while weaving in personal insights about discipline, determination, confidence, and resiliency.
“Being part of Play It Forward is my way of giving back by sharing my story and introducing golf to the next generation,” said Sörenstam. “The event is designed to teach the fundamentals of golf, but it is also about making great memories all while learning key life skills like patience and integrity.”
This year’s clinic also featured a Stroke of Teamwork station where participants dipped their golf balls in paint and putt them across a 36-square-foot canvas to create a unique piece of artwork. The final piece was gifted to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Augusta.
