Simon Says: Job recovery better in CSRA vs. Southeast

The latest job openings report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for September showed a decline of 4% in the South region. The BLS has just started releasing job openings by state and the decline in South Carolina was 1.1% and in Georgia it was less than 1 percent. Since job openings in Georgia and South Carolina represent a better picture of the economy for Augusta, I will be using a weighted average of Georgia and South Carolina job openings in the Augusta Leading Economic Index (LEI) moving forward.

Columbia County Chamber raising funds to build local workforce

Every year, nonprofits, such as churches and colleges, solicit donations for Giving Tuesday, but this year, the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Foundation wants to raise funds to address the local labor shortage. “We will be accepting Giving Tuesday donations until the end of the week (Friday, Dec. 3),” says Olivia Reich, the Chamber’s Communications Manager. “We are at $2,250, and our goal is $5,000.” That was the total at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30.
