$25,000 Donations Boost CSRA STEM programs

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) has made two significant donations to schools this month. The first was a $10,000 gift to Paine College, a Historically Black College in Augusta, Ga.

The donation is to enhance and support Paine College science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs by providing scholarships for talented students pursuing degrees in those disciplines.

SRMC President and Program Manager, Dr. Dave Olson, values a strong education with an emphasis on STEM-related curricula.

“We believe that education is a cornerstone of progress, and investing in STEM initiatives is essential for the future,” Olson said. “This partnership with Paine College will not only empower the next generation of leaders and innovators but also contribute to the advancement of technology and science in our community.”

Paine College President, Dr. Lester McCorn, said this donation from SRMC will serve its students by providing more opportunities to learn with less financial strain.

“This commitment from Savannah River Mission Completion to support STEM education at Paine will significantly impact our students and will help to cultivate a skilled workforce ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow,” McCorn said.

This week, SRMC also presented a check for $15,000 to Allendale-Fairfax Elementary School in support of their STEM program.

AFES Principal, Sheila Leath says that SRMC’s support is important in helping students better understand what STEM is and what they can do with that knowledge.

“Not only has SRMC provided monetary gifts for our STEM program, but its engineers bring energy and hands-on experiments to the classrooms, encouraging student participation,” said Leath. “We appreciate the classroom visits by engineers who are providing hands-on STEM experiments to challenge students to use their creativity and problem-solving skills. We are grateful for SRMC’s sustained support.”
