The Augusta Leading Economic Index (LEI) fell 1.1 percent in December 2023 from November 2023. It is 2.5 percent lower than December 2022. The index has fallen 12 percentage points from its all-time peak in June 2022, with data going back to 2007 (see chart below). The major components that caused the monthly decline were residential permits and initial claims for unemployment insurance. An annual event scheduled at Augusta Regional Airport is drawing increased attention to the airport. The third annual “Run the Runway” has been set for March 16. It gives individuals the unique opportunity to run a 5k race on one of the runways at the airport. “The course takes you through Lock and Dam Park and then, it will turn and get you on our property.
