Generous businesses attract loyal employees

A new report finds that even the most satisfied employees may be pursuing a different job, spurred by the desire to work for a company committed to the community. ABD’s learned that it is also the case with Augusta-area businesses like the Meta team member efforts to clean up Hitchcock Woods. (Photo Above) goBeyondProfit, founded in 2017, began tracking business generosity in 2019. Its 2025 report finds 97% of employees say business generosity is important. That’s more than double the 47% reported in 2019. (https://gobeyondprofit.org/research/2025-business-generosity-report/) Brittany Burnett, President and CEO

Good Deeds: Guest Column on Hurricane Helene

It’s All Heart (my friends) Eric Parker, Make Startups Founder One year ago this week, our city and our team were devastated by Hurricane Helene. Most of us had damaged homes, and the roads in and out of our neighborhoods and across the city were blocked by downed trees and power lines. We went weeks without power, and with limited access to food, gas, and other basic supplies. Every family learned how to use chainsaws, and communities banded together to help each other clean up, and most of all, actually

And Now for Some Good News!

The future is bright after all for the Augusta area workforce and young men specifically. My column last week on the struggles of young men in America was probably as saddening for many of you as it was for me. I have always seen this country as a land of great opportunity, and the plight of young men chronicled last week put some doubt in my mind for the first time.  However, I am fortunate to teach in Augusta University’s (AU) Hull College of Business (HCoB), so as I interact
