Hiring High School Graduates Right Away

The second annual Hire Summit Aiken is set for April 22 at Aiken High School on Rutland Drive. It is a partnership between the Aiken County Public School District, the Career and Technology Center, and the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW). It also involves the Barnwell and Edgefield County school districts. Joni McDaniel, the Lower Savannah Regional Workforce Advisor with DEW, told ABD they are calling on area businesses and industries to participate. The event is for high school seniors preparing to graduate and join the workforce.

United Way’s goal surpassed despite company decline

The United Way of the CSRA (UWCSRA) held its annual luncheon on March 11 to mark the end of its capital campaign. Future scientists, engineers, and mathematicians recently put their knowledge to the test during the annual U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Savannah River Regional Science Bowl® Competition at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Xfinity and beyond for Comcast! Comcast and its team of support staff from Atlanta opened its newest Xfinity store location in South Augusta. The store opened in a shopping center on 2115 Windsor Spring Road yesterday morning with many giveaways, music, and refreshments. Major local ties to SB 147 jobs for former inmates

The Georgia General Assembly is reviewing bipartisan legislation to help incarcerated individuals find employment upon their release. Senate Bill 147 would provide inmates with the documentation most commonly needed to find a job. A few senators with Richmond and Columbia County affiliations are pushing to get it done. The bill is sponsored by Michael “Doc” Rhett (D-33), and cosponsors, include Minority Leader Harold Jones (D-22), Republicans Max Burns (23rd District), and Lee Anderson (24th District). The legislation calls for creating a paper trail to provide inmates when they are released.
