Augusta University is holding its 6th Annual Day of Giving today, an opportunity for supporters of the university to donate across a broad list of programs. This annual event is a community-driven initiative driven by social media posts and shares. There are opportunities to support health care, education and research, and innovation. Attendees at the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce’s March Good Morning, North Augusta breakfast got an overview of how and where North Augusta is growing. Major local ties to SB 147 jobs for former inmates

The Georgia General Assembly is reviewing bipartisan legislation to help incarcerated individuals find employment upon their release. Senate Bill 147 would provide inmates with the documentation most commonly needed to find a job. A few senators with Richmond and Columbia County affiliations are pushing to get it done. The bill is sponsored by Michael “Doc” Rhett (D-33), and cosponsors, include Minority Leader Harold Jones (D-22), Republicans Max Burns (23rd District), and Lee Anderson (24th District). The legislation calls for creating a paper trail to provide inmates when they are released.

Bank enters CSRA market to open multiple branches

Chase Bank is launching its first location in Augusta, across from the Augusta National Golf Course, and in time for thousands of people attending the Masters. Tort reform legislation moves forward

Two bills that are Ga. Gov. Brian Kemp’s (R) call for reforms to the state’s tort laws are advancing during the current legislative session. The state Senate has approved SB 68 and SB 69. Among the provisions in SB 68 is one limiting owners’ liability for injuries on their property and placing restrictions on damages awarded for medical bills to what was paid by the plaintiff. March Blows in with Close to $2 Million Impact

Basketball, rowing, trade shows, and conferences are expected to pack a big economic punch in the CSRA this month. In the lineup, this year is a new event. The Augusta Sports Council confirmed that Riverview will play host to the first EYBL Scholastic Conference Championship and Nike Invitational Post-Season Tournament. “These are new tournaments that will be hosted at Riverview Park in North Augusta and kicked off yesterday.
