Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS), raised $10,113 for Children’s Place Inc., a local United Way agency, at the recent annual Celebrity Waiter Night fundraiser.
SRMC employees and managers volunteered at Electric Eats in downtown Aiken, working as “celebrity waiters,” where they served guests in exchange for donations for the non-profit agency.
On top of the $4,113 raised at the event, SRMC contributed $5,000, and DBD, Inc. donated $1,000 to the cause.
All money raised helps fund Children’s Place, which operates as a development center aiming to protect, heal, and strengthen children and families from the impact of trauma and other adverse experiences.
According to SRMC Projects and Construction Services Executive Assistant Bobbi Stavru, who coordinates Celebrity Waiter Night for SRMC, the event is raising more than just money but awareness, too.
“Many who dined at the various restaurants on Celebrity Waiter Night had little knowledge of what the fundraising event was about,” Stavru said. “It was our opportunity to explain the mission of Children’s Place and why organizations like it are so important. It is wonderful to see SRMC employees and the community coming together to support such a great cause. Thanks to those volunteers, Celebrity Waiter Night 2025 was a success!”
Kent Rosenberger, SRMC Deputy Director of Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality Assurance, has participated in Celebrity Waiter Night in previous years, and said he is already looking forward to next year.
“Even though it just ended, I am excited to volunteer next year,” Rosenberger said. “Participating in Celebrity Waiter Night does not feel like work when you get to interact with other waiters and enjoy the positive atmosphere from everyone involved. Children’s Place depends on Celebrity Waiter Night to fund their vital mission of helping children in our community, and I am happy to be a part of that.”
