A local credit union plans to open a new branch in a long-vacant Aiken County building.
SRP Federal Credit Union has purchased the building located at 201 Main St. South in the small town of New Ellenton near the Savannah River Site, according to Meybohm Commercial Properties, which represented the buyer and seller in this transaction.
It was formerly occupied by two fast-food restaurants: Hardees and Popeyes. The more than 3,300-square-foot property was listed for $175,000.
Founded in 1960, SRP already has 22 branches throughout Georgia and South Carolina, including Augusta, Evans, and Grovetown, as well as North Augusta, Aiken, and Edgefield. The credit union currently has more than 180,000 members, according to its website.
SRP offers its members a variety of products, including mortgages, car loans, and checking accounts.
