“She’s not new to this, but true to this.” This modern-day catchphrase describes Jamelia “Jay” Moore’s new journey into business ownership perfectly.
She’s always been physically active, fit, and fanatical about self-care, as working out became therapeutic. For 13 years, she’s coached recreation, middle and high school basketball, and T-ball. However, becoming a sole proprietor with fitness goals in mind for others, failed the first time.
That was then.
“I began to post snippets of workouts online and motivational videos and received a positive response from women,” the 42-year-old recalls. “I decided to train for a small business in the area and loved it. Unfortunately, life happened, and I had to take a step back from training and focus on my family.
“Fast forward, marriage and two kids later, I suffered from postpartum depression and needed something to help me get back to me. I began to put out more videos and work out again and my inbox was flooded with messages on requests to work out with me. I knew that this was my passion and calling and decided to step out on faith and make it happen.”

Jay Moore Fitness, located at the Augusta United Center off Deans Bridge Road, will hold its first official class in August but Moore has been working with three women virtually for more than six months. The wife and mother of five (plus a bonus son) says she’s ready, this time around, to take her passion and calling for personal training, group fitness, and virtual coaching for women…to the next level.
“I help women reconnect with themselves through fitness and positive self-talk,” Moore said. “I do not allow any negative self-talk in sessions or conversation with me. God has blessed us all with unique differences and we should embrace who we are because life is so very fragile.
“God has placed me in a position to help women feel better about themselves by using me as a tool to help transform the areas that they may wish to improve. I am not naïve to the fact that I can’t wave a wand and fix it all, but I can help women to see that by small changes, consistency, and a positive attitude that it’s not as difficult to reach our fitness goals.”

Or our faith goals. Because faith without (hard) work (out)s is dead.
She’s had to work through foreclosure, divorce, miscarriage, and depression, but she did it through God’s power. She says she started doing her fitness venture at no charge. Now, through faith, she’s in a position to rent a space to grow her business.
“Faith is following your vision even when no one can see it but you!” Moore said. “God has placed a vision in us all, but sometimes the loudness of the world drowns it out. Learn how to embrace the stillness because then, you will be able to hear God speak.”
