Let’s face it, most of us consider our pets part of the family. Riverfront Vet opened last month in North Augusta, and they are dedicated to keeping your pet healthy and being there to guide you through emergencies.
The amount of money Americans fork out each year for the care and feeding of our animal companions jumped to $151 billion in 2024. According to Pettable, that amounts to about $1,850 a year in Georgia and South Carolina.
For Dr. Maria Flippo, the first doctor in her family, it’s not about the money. She knew in high school when she worked at a small vet clinic that it was her passion for taking care of animals.
“I love animals. They don’t have a voice, so sometimes it’s a puzzle to figure out what is wrong. I’m dedicated to providing those solutions and to help them get the care they need,” Dr. Flippo explained.
Riverfront Vet at 190 Laurel Lake Drive in North Augusta is just off Exit 5 and right behind Waffle House.
Their list of services is extensive and includes microchipping, nutrition consultation, ultrasounds, surgery, dentistry, dermatology, vaccines, and preventative care.
“Now that we have opened, we’ve had a great response. We are dedicated to providing quality, affordable care.”
Dr. Flippo attended Clemson and then went to vet school at Tuskegee. She worked for BluePearl Vet Hospital, which has locations across the southeast. Most veterinarians graduate and go straight into practice. She chose another path.
“I spent a year after graduation in internships at specialty hospitals and in pet surgery. I believe that has positioned Riverfront Vet well in caring for families with beloved pets.”
People spend significant amounts on their pets, often viewing them as family members and prioritizing their well-being. This includes spending on premium food, healthcare, toys, and even luxury items, reflecting a strong emotional bond and the desire to provide the best possible care for their companions.
Regular vet check-ups, preventative care, and even pet insurance are becoming standard for many owners, ensuring their pets receive the best possible medical attention.
In the future, Dr. Flippo would love to expand her practice to include three or more vets to offer urgent care hours. In the meantime, you can visit their website here and even set up an appointment online. You can also follow Riverfront Vet on Facebook here or call (803) 658-4648.
Riverfront Vet will celebrate their Grand Opening on August 21 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a tour of the facility and local vendors providing snacks. Don’t forget to bring your furry friend!
