Home furnishing consolidation

A pair of New York area entrepreneurs have found a unique way to serve their furniture and bedding customers. They are teaming up.

Chris Tsilimidos (left, from New Jersey) started CSCM Furniture on South Belair, and Greg Nye (right, from Western New York) started a local branch of Mattress by Appointment on Roberts Road.

They both discovered there is truth in numbers.

In early 2025, they joined forces at 211 Bobby Jones Expressway to take advantage of tens of thousands of cars passing by their store each day.

Together, they are now Furniture and Mattress Gallery, while maintaining their individual brands.

“This is a great way to reduce overhead, and I like being on the same road with competitors,” said Tsilimidos.

A few other discount furniture stores are located between them and the entrance to I-520, which creates more convenience for shoppers and more customers for everyone.

Nye doesn’t consider himself a salesperson. He calls himself a “beducator” because he was a schoolteacher for decades, and he helps customers understand the nuances in their sleep health.

He retired in 2017 and joined the network of 350 “Mattress by Appointment” dealers.  “I didn’t retire to work more,” Nye chuckled from one of CSCM’s custom-made sofas from Tennessee.

Customers can still make an appointment to see him or talk with Tsilimidos. The two “store tenants” cover for each other.

“We all work together,” he added.

It’s with that spirit that Greg and Chris invited Britney Nelson from Brit Nelson Interiors and Barbara Berlanda Stevens from BtheSpace to offer an interior design workshop for dozens of community members last Thursday night.

The owners of the new Furniture and Mattress Gallery expect this to be the first of many community get-togethers to create a win-win opportunity for customers and their new joint venture.
