Local banking legend part of big changes

Phil Wahl’s had just about every job in the financial space in his storied 40-year career at local and national banks in the CSRA. Next month, he’ll add a new title at Security Federal Bank.

There are 19 full-service Security Federal locations on both sides of the Savannah River. Wahl’s been President for nearly seven years. Soon, he’ll also be Chief Executive Officer, joining the Board of Directors. Current CEO J. Chris Verenes will be retiring, but remains as Chairman and as a board member.

Security Federal announced a few other changes. Darrell R. Rains is retiring as Chief Financial Officer and remaining on the Bank’s Board. Nathan T. Crowe will be promoted to CFO.

These changes are effective July 10th.

“The Company (Security Federal Corporation) and the Bank will continue to benefit from the knowledge and experience that Chris and Darrell bring as members of the Boards,” said Timothy W. Simmons, Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors.

Wahl currently serves as Chair of the CSRA Transportation Investment Act Citizens Review Panel. He formerly served as Chair of the Board of Destination Augusta, Chair of the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, and Chair of the Augusta University Foundation Board of Trustees.

Nathan T. Crowe

Mr. Crowe is a CPA and has been with Security Federal for more than five years. He also previously worked for Elliott Davis, LLC for 12 years.

A full range of financial services, including trust and investments, are provided by the Bank, and insurance services are provided by the Bank’s wholly- owned subsidiary, Security Federal Insurance, Inc.
