Local chef now serving up hot dogs in downtown Augusta

When word went out that “the hot dog man” was serving lunch for a meeting at Auben Realty, there was an air of excitement usually reserved for fine dining.

The hot dog man is Jutavian McCord who dishes up all-beef hot dogs, sausages, and chicken wings from a sidewalk food cart with the business name Dat’s My Dog. There are plenty of condiments and toppings for the dogs, along with baked beans made from his mother’s recipe and coleslaw for sides. He’s been at it a year, but he’s had more than 20 years as a local chef, a designation he’s earned.

“Experience got me my chef label,” he said.

After years as a chef, why did he decide to start selling hot dogs?

“I like hot dogs,” he said. “They’re lovely little things to have. It was my favorite thing from my grandmother.”

This was his third time serving lunch at Auben Realty and he does the same for other businesses. He’s looking for a storefront for his business but for now, operates out of his mobile cart. He can be found at the corner of Broad Street and James Brown Boulevard on Friday and Saturday nights, and in front of The Scene nightclub on Broad Street on Thursday nights.

  1. Great hot dogs and sausage dogs per all the feedback. My favorite is his chicken wings. Love the sauce! Such a great time we have when Mr. McCord shows up! Thank you Gary for being our guest.
