Local graphic designer’s logo featured on the national TV show

It’s not every day a logo you design is shown on a national TV show, but that’s exactly what happened to Wes Roberts.

Roberts, the owner of Skysong Creative, a local graphic and web design firm, designed a logo that appeared on a new competition show called “BBQ USA” on the Food Network. Kurt Mueller, his friend and pit master for Atomic City Smokers, a competition and catering barbecue team based in North Augusta, asked him to design the logo.

The team appeared on the show’s second episode, which aired on July 18, and the logo was shown in that episode.

“To see something I did on national TV was surreal,” Roberts said.

He officially started his business in 2019, but he’s been doing graphic design work since he was in college. Prior to launching his business, Roberts provided design services for Quest Church in Grovetown as part of his role as a worship leader. He now serves as the church’s creative director.

While Covid forced some businesses to close, it helped Skysong grow.

“Businesses recognized the need for digital outreach,” Roberts said.

Like Roberts, Mueller said the experience was surreal.

“You had to pinch yourself to make sure it was real,” he said.

Since appearing on the show, Mueller said many people have reached out and asked if they sell T-shirts and other items featuring the logo.

“We don’t, but that may change in the future,” he said.

Roberts said 95% of his clients are local, so having his logo featured on national TV was remarkable.

“That was my 15 minutes of fame, I guess you could say,” he said.
