Local Supermarket Chain helps those recovering from Hurricane Helene

Those suffering from food shortages in their home can take advantage of a $300,000 grant given to the Golden Harvest Food Bank by a large supermarket chain.

Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation presented a $300,000 disaster relief grant to the Food Bank.

“Food Lion has always stood alongside us, supporting our mission to feed our neighbors in need,” said Amy Breitmann, President and CEO, Golden Harvest Food Bank. “This $300,000 grant is yet another example of their unwavering commitment, bringing hope and vital relief to families recovering from the storm.”

Food Lion Feeds, established in 2014 by Food Lion, is an omnichannel grocery retailer initiative created to combat food insecurity. Through this program, Food Lion provides nutritious food to nourish neighbors experiencing hunger. Food Lion associates play an active role in this mission by volunteering year-round to pack or distribute food, demonstrating their steadfast commitment to making a difference in the communities they serve.

Golden Harvest Food Bank serves the hungry in our 24-county service area in eastern Georgia and western South Carolina. The Food Bank was founded in Augusta, Ga. in 1982, and now operates from distribution centers in Augusta, Ga. and Aiken, S.C. Golden Harvest is a locally supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides grocery products to the hungry through a network of more than 350 partner agencies and programs. Golden Harvest distributed over 14 million meals to those in need in fiscal year 2024.
