Major manufacturer in CSRA pledges to help future biz leaders

Aurubis Richmond is the newest company to open a storefront at Junior Achievement’s Discovery Center in Evans.

Aurubis is one of the largest copper recyclers worldwide. The company processes complex metal concentrates, scrap metals, and metal-bearing recycling materials into metals from the Augusta Corporate Park in South Augusta.

This marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to education and community engagement. “This initiative reflects Aurubis Richmond’s belief that business and community must work together to prepare the next generation for success,” said David Schultheis, President of Aurubis Richmond.

Aurubis is joining several other companies in JA’s simulated town, like Chick-fil-A, SRP Federal Credit Union, AU, ADP, Delta Airlines, and more. Middle schoolers learn financial literacy and career skills by working jobs, managing paychecks, paying taxes, and running businesses in a hands-on, interactive environment.

They use tablets, debit cards, and work on budgets while taking a field trip from their Columbia County or Richmond County school. The JA Discovery Center of the CSRA is housed in a 30,000-square-foot space within Columbia County Schools’ Support Complex. This JA Discovery Center expands access to programming to 15,000 area middle school students, who also learn for several days in the classroom.
