Luke Cain joined the Marine Corps after 9/11, serving 16 years in the Military Intelligence community.
“I deployed 3 times while active, and deployed again after getting out as a contractor in the military community,” said the Evans resident.
Cain had no college degree or business background.
“Civilian life didn’t have the same structure and standards,” said Cain.
He looked for a team and found it in the Pest Control industry.

“Mosquito Squad is made up of numerous locations and owners across the US. We all share our experiences and knowledge to help the entire team succeed. That is how the team with the Squad is similar to the military, we all play a part in everyone else’s success,” added Cain.
He opened his Augusta franchise in 2015 and bought the Columbia, South Carolina franchise in 2021.
“The processes and procedures that the military instilled in me directly contributed to the success of my business. Having standards that could be measured, helped me adjust and drive my business to the next level.

Entrepreneur Magazine took notice and wrote a feature on Cain’s story, focusing on work-life balance.
“I have a lot more time with my kids” compared to the government job, he says. “I coach my kids’ football team, go on all the field trips, and all the holiday meals at school and stuff like that. I would say that’s a good thing. That was one of my reasons for franchising. I wanted my own family, and I wanted to be able to spend enough time with them.”
His goal is to have 5 locations in the future.
Here is the Entrepreneur feature.
