According to Libby Conkey, earning a Professional MBA from the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina has created many opportunities for networking and future career advancement.
Conkey, a risk analyst for Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, graduated from the program in 2021 after earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2017.
“I know having earned my MBA in the early stages of my career will only benefit me in the future as I strive to advance in the workforce,” she said.

The Darla Moore School will host a free networking happy hour event for current and prospective students in its Professional MBA program on Tuesday, June 28, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at River Watch Brewery in downtown Augusta. Alumni who live and work in the CSRA are also invited to attend.
John Jones, the program’s Managing Director, said this event will be the first one the school has held in the Aiken-Augusta area.
“We did events similar to this in Columbia, Charleston, and Greenville,” Jones said.
The program will provide catering from Chipotle Mexican Grill and drink tokens. He said hosting a group of 25-30 people would be ideal, but, if necessary, they will accommodate a larger crowd.
“In Columbia, we had close to 50 people,” Jones said. “We want to give people the opportunity to network without getting overwhelmed.”
The two-year program is designed for working professionals. He said each class meets one night a week for seven weeks. Students typically take one class each term, but they have the option to take two classes each term and graduate faster.

Students don’t have to drive to Columbia to attend classes.
“We offer classes on the USC-Aiken campus,” Jones said. “That campus has its own online MBA program, but we’re not affiliated with that.”
In the 48-credit-hour program, students take classes in accounting, economics, finance, and management.
For Conkey, earning her MBA has prepared her well for the next steps in her career.
“I still have a long way to go in my professional development, but I am excited about the opportunities ahead,” she said.
