3 Chicks in Charge

A first-of-its-kind collaboration between area Business Network International Chapters (BNI) and the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce led to a standing-room-only Tuesday at First Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall.

BNI’s contribution was the Augusta Business Summit featuring more than 15 speakers throughout the program that started at 8 A.M and was scheduled to end at 5 P.M.

The $100 ticket included admission to the break-out session, high-end swag, and breakfast and lunch before the Chamber’s “Women in Business” program.

Audience members got to go behind the curtain of how three powerful women in the history of Augusta have balanced their support for one another with demanding careers that have intersected at times.

The self-proclaimed “3 Chicks in Charge” (from left to right) Margaret Woodard from Augusta’s Downtown Development Authority, Nancy Glaser from the Augusta Museum of History, and Sue Parr, recently retired from Augusta’s Chamber shared lessons learned from when they each moved to Augusta to take Executive Director roles about 20 years ago.

Advice given included:

  • Do your job to the best of your ability.
  • Leave your role in a better place than you found it.
  • If you love what you do it’s not really a “job.”
  • Work on developing allies and invite opposition to your ideas.
  • Allow your work to stand on its own with quiet leadership.
