ABD to tour Savannah JA Discovery Center

Many wonder why schools don’t teach financial literacy and practical job skills, but starting this fall, local middle school students will get to learn these skills and more, thanks to a non-profit organization.

In March 2022, ABD brought you the story of plans to build a Junior Achievement Discovery Center at the Columbia County School District Support Complex on River Watch Parkway in Evans this fall.

The center will be the result of a partnership between Junior Achievement of Georgia, the Columbia County School District, and Richmond County School System.

On Wednesday, an ABD reporter will travel to Savannah, along with representatives from these school systems, to tour its JA Discovery Center and prepare a story to give our readers an idea of what the local center will look like.

“The Discovery Center of the CSRA will welcome approximately 15,000 students annually and will serve as not only an asset for our education system and children but also the community at large,” said Junior Achievement of Georgia’s Director of Development for the Greater Augusta market, Ashley Whitaker.

The organization will also hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 3:30 p.m. Sixth-grade students will participate in a program called JA BizTown, which simulates running a business. Students in seventh and eighth grades will participate in JA Finance Park, which shows them what it’s like to work and support a family.
