Augusta Regional Airport will have a busy April in 2025 with two events generating visitors.
First is the 89th annual Masters Tournament, which will run April 7th – 13th next year. However, from the first arrivals to final departures, it has expanded to nearly two weeks with the addition of the Drive, Chip, and Putt Competition for young golfers, and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) tournament.
Augusta Regional Airport staff will have less than two weeks to catch their respective breaths before Air Show Augusta 2025 roars into the Augusta airspace.
“Moving it closer to Masters Week, we don’t see any problems,” Randy Sasser, chairman of the Augusta Aviation Commission’s air show subcommittee, assured ABD. “That close to the Masters, it is definitely going to be busy, but we’re thinking also about the attendees, the patrons, who will actually be at the air show. It’s going to be cooler. We’ve had some sweltering days in the past at the earlier air shows.”
Air Show Augusta will be April 26-27, making it the first of the tour’s eight stops.
“Air Dot Show Tour events appeal to a diverse audience far beyond just aviation enthusiasts, encompassing destination travelers, families, thrill seekers, and people of all ages,” said Tour CEO Bryan Lilley in a news release. “Our events are a groundbreaking fusion of outdoor festival vibes and a high-flying aviation spectacular, offering a revolutionary blend of a center stage production with the exhilarating performances of an air show.”
“Blue Angels have already been here to see the airport. They’re going to be the headline act,” said Sasser. “We’ve got their books, their guidelines, all that kind of stuff. We don’t see any problems with that.”
The news release said attendees will see performances by top-level military and civilian aircraft.
“The 2025 Tour will feature renowned U.S. military demonstration teams including the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, along with aircraft demonstrations from various military branches and civilian aircraft piloted by some of the world’s best aviators,” it read.
Sasser said the show can also serve as a recruitment tool for the U.S. military.
“There’s the Army, primarily because of Fort Eisenhower. They are uber, uber, uber excited about this opportunity,” said Sasser. “There is a huge amount of excitement from the military side, not just from our side, but the way it ties to our community at Fort Eisenhower. We actually met with the recruiters that are responsible all the way up to as far north as Asheville, as far west as Alabama, and all the way down to the southern border of Georgia.”
Following the Augusta show, the tour will visit Fort Lauderdale on May 3-4; a new show was added in Harrisburg, Pa. on May 24-25; then Ocean City, Md. June 14-15; Cocoa Beach, Fla. July 12-13; and Orange County, N.Y. on August 23-24. The tour returns to Georgia October 11-12 at Atlanta Regional Airport – Falcon Field. The final stop is in Orlando from October 25-26.
