Gordon Highway used to be called “The Motor Mile,” due to a litany of car dealerships.
Soon, with the addition of Dutch Bros. Coffee, a strip of Washington Road may be called “The Coffee Mile.”
Contractors are putting the finishing touches on their first location in Augusta. The Arizona-based franchise has nearly 1300 locations, including the closest one in the two-state area in Columbia, South Carolina.
Dutch Bros. is located at 3064 Washington Road, on the land once occupied by Mi Rancho Restaurant and between Burger King and Chick-fil-A. They are one of five coffee shops, or drive-thrus, between their location and I-20 at Washington Road.
John Curry, co-owner of Buona Caffe based in downtown and midtown Augusta, recently told ABD that things have changed greatly over the years.
“When we first opened, we were pretty much the only coffee shop between downtown and I-20. At last count, there were 27 – and that doesn’t include Starbucks and Dunkin. Corporate coffee chains have descended on the CSRA.
But now it is them, and 7Brew and Caribou, and Ziggi’s, and now Dutch Brothers. There are just so many options now; we just have to keep looking for ways to set ourselves apart from the ever-growing volume of competition, “ he said
Also within the “coffee mile” includes 7Brew (3038 Washington Road at Charlestown Rd), Caribou (3050 Washington Road), Dunkin (3024 Washington Road), and Starbucks (3018 Washington Road).
Café Dulce closed in 2026 just west of Dutch Bros on 3118 Washington Road near Warren Road.
