Augusta butcher shop expands to Columbia County

Jack Deese has wanted to expand his business to Columbia County for years, but he finally has the opportunity.

Deese, the owner of The New York Butcher Shoppe located at 465 Highland Ave. in Surrey Center, is about to open a new location at 4446 Washington Road, Unit 18 across the street from the Evans Walmart. The store will be between Charro’s restaurant and American Family Insurance in the Shoppes at Camelot.

He’s not quite sure when the store will be ready to open, but he’s currently shooting for February or March.

“It’s a premium meat butcher shop,” Deese said.

The store will carry a variety of meats, including Certified Angus Beef, Norwegian salmon, and sausages, as well as prepared foods, such as chicken salad, twice-baked potatoes, and stuffed pork chops.

“We’ll have an extensive selection of wines and a variety of desserts,” he said.

They also accept special orders and provide catering services. Deese said most of his employees can offer customers cooking instructions using the ingredients they buy at The New York Butcher Shoppe.

“The list of things I don’t do is much shorter than the list of things I do,” he said.

Deese, who has an extensive background in the food and beverage industry, studied marketing at Kennesaw State University. He has owned the Augusta location for seven years.

“It’s been a wonderful experience so far,” he said.

Deese said his customers love the meats they sell, especially their steaks and pork chops.

He has hired six employees for the Evans location so far and is looking for more people to work in both stores. Once Deese builds the Evans team, he plans to allow employees to move back and forth between the locations. Deese said many of his Augusta employees live in the Evans area.

He has also had some trouble getting the equipment he needs, but overall, it hasn’t been too bad.

“We’re just excited to be in Columbia County,” Deese said.

The New York Butcher Shoppe will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit local.nybutcher.com/evans/?fbclid=IwAR1-qdMlg7L_7kcsu0ACV7lXuTd9HDacmebaRiyARzTxD8FkVi1EJpbViiU.
