Augusta Chick-fil-A location celebrates grand re-opening

ABD wondered how many millions of dollars in acquisition or renovation costs Chick-Fil-A paid to expand its store to include the old Mi Rancho property. The operators didn’t want to discuss those numbers or how many millions in increased sales they believe is possible.

Chick-fil-A, 3066 Washington Road, celebrated its grand re-opening yesterday morning. The new store has a larger parking lot, a fully updated kitchen, patio seating, two drive-thru lanes, and a drive-thru door instead of a window, according to franchise operator, John Powell.

“Employees won’t be leaning out of a window,” said Powell, who has been with the fast-food chain for 22 years. “They’ll bring your food right out to your car.”

He said he believes the larger building will translate into increased sales for this location. The original building closed in April and was demolished to make room for the new restaurant.

“We were able to purchase the adjacent property,” he said.

That property belonged to Mi Rancho Mexican Restaurant, which relocated to Furys Ferry Road. Two construction companies, JLL and Bass, completed the project in only a few months.

“Construction had its highs and lows,” said JT Powell, the owner’s son, and managing partner. “We had an amazing construction crew and were blessed to have them.”

To commemorate the grand re-opening, the Powells and their family held a First Bite Ceremony by taking bites out of Chick-fil-A sandwiches. Cheerleaders from Tutt Middle School and Westside High School performed, and John Powell spoke to the crowd gathered for the celebration.

“I have had the distinct honor and privilege to serve as operator of this beautiful store,” Powell said. “I thank Chick-fil-A for believing in this community.”

Founded in Georgia in 1946 by Truett Cathy, Chick-fil-A has nearly 3,000 stores across the U.S. and Canada.

The new store opened for business at 10:30 a.m. Its normal business hours are Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, visit chick-fil-a.com/locations/ga/washington-road or call 706-860-7140.
