Business Education: New opportunities available

The Hull College of Business is trying to make sure that students have a chance to take coursework and start to learn how to run a business.

Its Dean, Mark Thompson explains more:

“One of the things that Hull College has done and continues to look to do is to create dual degree options.

We do this with our professional students, where we have medical school students, we have dental school students that are pursuing their MD and DMD while also pursuing an MBA.

So that’s one of our sets of dual degree options. We also have some PhD students that also pursue the PhD/MBA program.

But one of the things that we’re really looking to do this semester is look at ways to attract undergraduates in what we call a 4 plus 1 type program. So, the idea is that as they are pursuing their undergraduate degree in a four-year time horizon, maybe that senior year, they start to take some graduate coursework and then ultimately stay one extra year to finish out their MBA.

So, a good example might be an undergrad that’s pursuing a mathematics degree, may want to also get his MBA, and so may do a four plus one of graduating with a BS in Mathematics and an MBA.

And, you know, a good example of a career path would be somebody that might be interested in Actuarial Science. And so, they need to understand the business side along with the mathematical side.”
