Inner Bean Café’s Facebook page refers to the eatery on Davis Road as “not just a place; it’s a state of mind,” and if you’ve ever eaten there, you probably know exactly what that description means. I’ve enjoyed visiting many restaurants in Augusta and beyond, but eating at Inner Bean has always been such a calming experience and a welcome respite from the chaos of the world.
My wife, Rebecca, and I visited the café on Saturday afternoon. I’d eaten breakfast and lunch there many times, but it was her first time at Inner Bean. When we arrived, people were seated both inside and outside, but there were plenty of available tables, which hasn’t always been the case when I’ve eaten lunch there on weekdays.
When we placed our order, the cashier explained to Rebecca that all their menu items are made fresh, so they can be modified. I ordered the turkey bacon croissant with jalapeno potato chips and a pickle, and she ordered a chicken salad sandwich with pasta salad, broccoli salad, and a pickle. I always order my sandwich without mayonnaise or tomatoes.
Our food was served promptly, and we both enjoyed our lunch. Rebecca seemed impressed with the café and had no complaints about the food or service.
Inner Bean has plenty of seating, and while it can get crowded at times, it’s usually very quiet, making it an ideal location for a business meeting. I’ve often seen business professionals and students working on laptops.
The restaurant is a little more expensive than other local eateries because it charges diners for each side they order. Because we ordered a total of four sides, our check came to about $40. For comparison, at Jason’s Deli, most meals come with chips, but they also have a manager’s special, which allows customers to order other side items, such as fruit or macaroni and cheese.
I like Jason’s Deli, but I like Inner Bean Café even more. It’s hard to put a price on a great meal and a relaxed state of mind.
