When I was a full-time reporter with Augusta Business Daily, I wanted to write a preview story about Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q coming to Augusta, but I never reached anyone with the company to answer my questions.
My wife, Rebecca and I have visited the restaurant at 275 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway in front of Twin Peaks twice. When she first mentioned the idea of trying Jim ‘N Nick’s, I thought we would have to wait two hours for a table, but she said diners actually seat themselves. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and, as usual, she was right. The restaurant was crowded, but there were still a few tables available, so she grabbed one while I waited in line to order.
The second time, we went on a Friday afternoon, and while the line to order our food was long, it moved quickly. As Southerners, we both enjoy good Bar-B-Q, and Jim ‘N Nick’s doesn’t disappoint. The food is delicious, the portions are large, and the service is great. We both ordered pulled pork plates, which came with two sides and cheese biscuits. We also ordered six biscuits to take home.
Our food was delivered promptly, and our server was very friendly and attentive. The manager also circulated throughout the restaurant, talking to guests and making sure they were happy with their dining experience.
I like the atmosphere at Jim ‘N Nick’s, but it’s often crowded, and with all the conversations taking place simultaneously, it would be difficult to hold a business meeting there. The pulled pork plates cost $14.99 each, which isn’t the cheapest, but we gladly paid that price for quality meals and excellent service.
While I don’t visit Bar-B-Q restaurants often, I’ve tried other local eateries, such as The Pot Smoker BBQ in North Augusta and Shane’s Rib Shack in Evans. According to their websites, The Pot Smoker charges $11.99 for its pulled pork meal, and Shane’s charges $10.99. Those meals are also served with sides and bread.
While I like all three restaurants, Jim ‘N Nick’s is my favorite. Rebecca and I both said we plan to stop by again soon.
