Whether it’s for breakfast, lunch, brunch, or dinner, I love going out to eat, but I get bored eating at the same restaurants all the time. Even with recent closings, the CSRA is still home to many fine eateries. And one of those that’s still going strong after more than 35 years is Village Deli Sub & Pub on Wrightsboro Road in Daniel Village.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve eaten there over the last 20 years, but I remember many great meals shared with friends. I’ve tried several of the deli’s menu options, which include steaks, sandwiches, and wings, and I don’t recall ever receiving bad food or poor service. Even if I did, I wouldn’t complain because, for obvious reasons, I don’t want to anger the people handling my food.
This time, I went to Village Deli alone and decided to try something different, so I ordered a chicken quesadilla, an item I never knew they served. I went in the early afternoon, and there was no wait for a table. My server was friendly and seated me promptly. I received my drink and food quickly, and it was delicious and comparable in quality to those served by local Mexican restaurants.
Business was slow this time, but that’s not always the case. While I’ve never known the restaurant to be exceptionally loud, it can get crowded, so it’s probably not the best location to hold a business meeting.
I love the atmosphere at Village Deli, which is popular with local college students, thanks in part to its proximity to Augusta University. While dining there, you’ll probably find yourself captivated by its unique decor, which includes a Goodyear tire, NASCAR posters, and Masters photos.
While the restaurant offers great food and excellent service, its prices certainly aren’t the cheapest. I’ve tried chicken quesadillas at Salsa’s Bar & Grill and Lokos Tacos. At Village Deli, the cost of the quesadilla was $12.99, compared to $8.95 at Salsa’s and $11.95 at Lokos Tacos.
Saving money is important, but I always prefer to pay a little extra for a great meal.
