Mark your calendar for the Downtown Get Down event sponsored by Downtown Soul City. It’s a fundraising event taking place from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Savannah River Brewing Co. in Augusta on Thursday, March 21st, 2024.
Local merchant association Downtown Soul City (DSC) invites the public to join them to celebrate their community achievements, learn about future initiatives and events, and have a funky good time. The non-profit association will be hosting a fundraising party featuring a theme of “The James Brown Era” and attendees are encouraged to dress up in one of the James Brown eras of the 1960’s, 70’s, or 80’s. There will be music provided by local DJs, a break dancing showcase, and a best-dressed competition.
“We have 13 members of the DSC, but our ultimate goal is to increase community engagement for the businesses that have opened downtown and the entrepreneurs who are looking to establish businesses downtown,” said John Porter, DSC Director.
There will be a short presentation on what DSC has done since their incorporation, the impact they’ve made on Downtown Augusta and the community, as well as a vision for this year and beyond. Attendees can meet the owners and representatives of member stores who have put on events like Camp Soul City, The 19th Hole Crawl, and Small Business Saturday.
Attendees will also have a chance to win a prize basket of products from downtown stores. Tickets for the event can be purchased at https://www.downtownsoul.city. Included with entry are two drink tickets, appetizers from event sponsor, Laziza Mediterranean Grill, and a funky good time!
“What we do every day or with these special events creates an environment for new downtown businesses.”
Downtown Soul City has Downtown VIP community memberships available for only $4.99/month. Anyone who joins before the event can get $10 off their ticket. DSC also welcomes other downtown businesses to join them as Supporters or Sponsors.
Businesses can also sponsor individual events. Event sponsors to date are Savannah River Brewing Co., Laziza Mediterranean Grill, Mod Ink, and Fulcher Hagler LLP.
Downtown Soul City is a non-profit organization with a mission to promote and market retail in the downtown area, host events, and community engagement opportunities, and encourage and provide incentives to shop local.
