Local economist shares 2022 outlook

Unlike many CSRA employers, Lane Keen’s business hasn’t experienced a labor shortage. Keen – owner of Keen Signs & Graphics, recently moved his business from Reynolds Street to a much larger location at 1467 Broad St. “We have low turnover,” he says. Trusting remote workers to get the job done

Like many remote workers, Craig Young enjoys the freedom that comes with working from home. Young recently started a job as Regional Vice President for FULLTHROTTLE – a Philadelphia-based advertising technology company. SIMON SAYS: Augusta not stacking up well on job front

Last week I described the weak labor market in Augusta over the last year. The Labor Market Index, a composite index of five labor market indicators (employment, unemployment rate, average weekly earnings, labor force, and hours worked), increased just 1.4% over the last year. Compared to other Metropolitan Statistical Areas in Georgia only Columbus and Hinesville have performed worse. Simon Says: Augusta’s unemployment picture

The headline unemployment rate for the Augusta MSA fell to a record low of 2.8% in September on a seasonally adjusted basis unemployment has been at 3.1% for the last three months.  Other labor market data for Augusta also barely moved in September. Employment fell by 400 jobs, average weekly earnings rose by $3, hours worked fell by about 12 minutes and the labor force contained 373 fewer people. German company hiring 125 in Augusta to make dent in CSRA job loss

A German metal recycling company is coming to the CSRA and bringing with it 125 skilled manufacturing jobs. Yesterday, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Aurubis AG has authorized the construction of a $340 million recycling and secondary-smelting plant – the only one of its kind in the U.S. – located at 4760 Mike Padgett Highway in Augusta Corporate Park.
