Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS), raised $10,113 for Children’s Place Inc., a local United Way agency, at the recent annual Celebrity Waiter Night fundraiser. SRMC employees and managers volunteered at Electric Eats in downtown Aiken, working as “celebrity waiters,” where they served guests in exchange for donations for the non-profit agency. Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) has made two significant donations to schools this month. The first was a $10,000 gift to Paine College, a Historically Black College in Augusta, Ga. The donation is to enhance and support Paine College science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs by providing scholarships for talented students pursuing degrees in those disciplines. Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) recently presented a $20,000 donation to the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) of Aiken County at the non-profit’s 20th annual fundraising gala. Over the years, SRNS has given over $240,000 to CAC in support of their mission to provide intervention, treatment, and prevention services that promote healing for Aiken County children who have experienced abuse. The annual gala raises funds to cover the organization’s operational costs. Demolition has begun on an abandoned warehouse near the Augusta Fairgrounds. The Salvation Army of Augusta wants to build a new Center of Hope on the tract that city records say is 3.32 acres. For the fifth consecutive Masters tournament, the Wheels Up team flew into Augusta to help the Golden Harvest Food Bank, before flying in golf fans to visit the Augusta National Golf Course. Last Wednesday, Wheels Up joined the food bank in service at The Master’s Table soup kitchen and also volunteered at the Food Bank’s new Produce Rescue Center, packing and sorting produce. Meals Up was created during the COVID-19 pandemic to address food insecurity, and the company will be donating meals again this year to support the local community
