Governor extends gas tax suspension, local gas prices among nation’s lowest

Georgians will have at least another month to enjoy slightly lower gas prices, by order of the governor. Last week, Gov. Brian Kemp extended the suspension of the collection of the gas tax until Sept. 12. This is the third extension of the original executive order. A local credit union plans to open a new branch in a long-vacant Aiken County building. SRP Federal Credit Union has purchased the building located at 201 Main St. South in the small town of New Ellenton near the Savannah River Site, according to Meybohm Commercial Properties, which represented the buyer and seller in this transaction. Demolition began this week on the latest bit of property to be added to Augusta National Golf Course on Washington Road. Thompson Wrecking, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021, typically demolishes buildings on behalf of Augusta National. ABD Update: Local baker launches dream business in Augusta Mall

Alice Garner’s grand opening was postponed by a few weeks, but seeing a long line of people waiting to try her desserts was no less sweet when she officially opened her business yesterday morning. Garner, a U.S. Army veteran, launched Garner’s Sweet Dreams, LLC in a kiosk on the lower level of the Augusta Mall between Macy’s and Bath and Body Works.
