Chamber presents its annual Best in Business awards

Next year, Nick Dickinson’s company will celebrate its 40th anniversary. Yesterday, the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce celebrated Dickinson’s professional accomplishments by honoring him as its 2022 Augusta’s Entrepreneur.

Dickinson, CEO of Dickinson Architects, won one of three Best in Business awards at the Chamber’s Member Economic Luncheon. His father, Nick Dickinson Sr., founded the company in 1983. Over the last four decades, Dickinson Architects has designed several well-known buildings throughout the CSRA, including Augusta Sportswear, Savannah Rapids Pavilion, Frog & The Hen and Farmhaus’s Martinez location, as well as First Community Bank Augusta and MedNow Urgent Care’s Washington Road location.

“It’s continuing my father’s vision,” he said. “We’re creating better spaces and better lives for our clients and the community.”

For the first time since 2013, the Chamber presented the Entrepreneur Rising Star award, awarding it to Doug Burks, founder and CEO of Security Onion Solutions, LLC. Founded in 2014, Security Onion, a cybersecurity company, offers a variety of threat detection and security monitoring hardware, software, training, and support.

“I think it’s a privilege and honor to be recognized by the city that’s raised me,” Burks said.

In 2013, the award went to Sean and Krista Wight, owners of Frog Hollow Hospitality Group, according to the Chamber website.

The 2022 Corporation of the Year award was presented to Textron Specialized Vehicles and was accepted by the company’s Vice President of Marketing & Customer Experience, Morgan Gresens. Gresens said Augusta is an important part of the company’s history because E-Z-Go, a golf cart company and now a division of Textron, was founded in a one-room machine shop in the city in 1954.

“We would not have been the company we are today without the support of Augusta,” she said.
