Chili cook-off raises funds for Miracle Field

While it may be the off-season for baseball, SRP Park is holding a fun competition to raise funds for a worthy cause.

The stadium will host the Beans & Brews Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event will raise money for The RECing Crew, a non-profit organization that helps individuals with disabilities enjoy various athletic and leisure activities, such as baseball, basketball, karate, and bowling.

In June 2021, the City of North Augusta passed a resolution to allow the organization to build a Miracle Field in Riverview Park, according to The RECing Crew’s founder, Pam Stickler.

“A Miracle Field is an inclusive, universally accessible, soft-surface baseball diamond created especially for athletes with disabilities,” Stickler said. “The field also accommodates wheelchairs and other assistive devices while helping to prevent possible injuries.”

The nonprofit is raising money to pay for the field’s construction.

Both individual and corporate teams will compete in the cook-off. While it’s too late to register for the competition, tickets for the event are still available.

“This fall, we were looking to add a new community event to the SRP Park calendar, and from those conversations, the inaugural Beans & Brews Chili Cook-Off was created,” said Augusta GreenJackets Vice President, Tom Denlinger. “We look forward to an afternoon of fun and delicious food.”

Advance tickets can be purchased for $15 and $20 on the day of the event. For more information or to buy tickets, visit milb.com/augusta/community/chili-cook-off?fbclid=IwAR3dPQrNrlkTz9aODfM63LArC46GUayRRKKpKYeyzOJOuDpklclJ4n18kIo.
