One of downtown Augusta’s most popular events returns Saturday, July 13, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This fun family event is like a summer camp with no tents but meandering in and out of air-conditioned shops and working on camp-related projects.
“Campers” can check in at Camp HQ (Augusta & Co., 1010 Broad St, Augusta) to pick up a Camp map. They can then visit participating stores to indulge in a camp-themed activity where they can earn a merit badge. Some of the activities include Collage Your Own Bookmark, DIY Natural Bug Spray, Tie-Dye Tees, and Edible Campfires.
Camp activities at each location will be either free or low-cost and are geared toward campers of all ages.
“Camp Soul City is a wonderful event that brings our community together in a fun and engaging way,” said John Porter, DSC Director. “Campers have the opportunity to discover participating stores throughout downtown as they complete camp-themed activities and earn merit badges. It’s a fantastic way to explore and support our local businesses while enjoying a unique downtown Augusta experience that the whole family can enjoy.”
This year DSC is partnering with downtown food and beverage establishments to provide “canteen” stops for campers. Each canteen stop will provide a special deal for campers who have completed at least two activities. Additionally, popsicles from Augusta Pop Co. will be available for sale at Camp HQ.
“The effort made to visit stores in person and participate in local events, sponsored by small business owners, contributes greatly to the success of our local economy,” said Sarah Childers, Experience and Community Engagement Manager at Destination Augusta. “We hope that any first-time campers will become recurring, engaged customers at our unique locally owned businesses.”
Downtown Soul City VIP members can pick up a complimentary lanyard and badge at Camp HQ Augusta & Co. so they can show off their activity merit badges. Family VIP members can receive up to four lanyards.
While memberships will be available to purchase at Camp HQ, the community is encouraged to skip the lines and purchase their memberships before the event. VIP community memberships are available for only $4.99/month for a single membership or $9.99/month for a family membership. VIP members receive perks at each of the quarterly events hosted by Downtown Soul City. This event is sponsored by Augusta & Co., Mod Ink, and Fulcher Hagler LLP.
