CSRA business leaders perform on stage to support domestic violence nonprofit

Cliff Jennings never performed on stage with Mark Wahlberg, but for one night only, the local business leader will be a member of Marky Mark and the Movement Bunch to raise funds for a CSRA non-profit organization.

Jennings, Branch Manager of Movement Mortgage in Augusta, is participating in the sixth annual Fake It to Make It lip sync challenge, a fundraiser for SafeHomes of Augusta, which serves domestic violence victims and their children. The event, which will feature seven teams, will be held Friday at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center beginning at 7:30 p.m.

“My wife and I attended Fake It to Make It last year, and it was such a fun, entertaining night,” he said. “It was an easy answer when I was asked to join a team.”

Since 2016, the event has raised more than $1 million for SafeHomes, according to the fundraiser’s website. As of yesterday afternoon, it had already raised more than $191,000 of its $250,000 goal.

Other businesses participating in this year’s lip sync challenge include LLP Contracting, LLC, Plant Vogtle,  and Blanchard and Calhoun Real Estate. Susan See, owner of Nothing Bundt Cakes in Evans and Aiken, will also lead a team called Feature Flav.

“What joy to pretend to be a rock star for a night while raising money for SafeHomes, which assists domestic violence victims and their kids in the CSRA,” See said.

“Fake It to Make It (FITMI) is SafeHomes’ largest annual fundraiser that helps raise dollars to continue its mission to transform victims of domestic violence into survivors,” said the nonprofit’s Executive Director, Aimee Hall. “The community’s support is vital in continuing to serve victims and be the catalyst that brings an end to abuse.”

While Jennings enjoys Fake It to Make It, he also realizes the importance of the fundraiser.

“SafeHomes and its volunteers work so hard, many times behind the scenes, supporting victims throughout the CSRA,” he said. “It’s a very necessary organization to support and stand behind.”
