The parent company of a manufacturing company on West Five Notch Road in Edgefield County, just south of Murrah Road, plans to expand.
A news release from South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) announced Portland Bolt and Manufacturing will add a new facility alongside the former Southern Anchor Bolt facility. The $4.3 million investment will create more than 20 jobs.
“We applaud Portland Bolt’s continued investment in Edgefield County and the new opportunities it creates for South Carolinians with this expansion. This announcement highlights Portland Bolt’s commitment to our community, and we look forward to the company’s success in the years ahead,” Gov. Henry McMaster said in the news release.
Based in Portland, Ore., Portland Bolt and Manufacturing Company was founded in 1912. It makes anchor bolts and construction fasteners.
The company announced the acquisition of Southern Anchor Bolt in Edgefield County in a June news release on its website. Portland Bolt said having facilities on the west and east coasts will mean it can deliver products to U.S. customers in as little as two days.
In announcing the acquisition, Portland Bolt said Leslie Yanizeski, President of Southern Anchor Bolt, will continue to manage the daily operations.
“At Southern Anchor Bolt, we are thrilled to be partnering with Portland Bolt,” said Yanizeski in that announcement. “The opportunity for our employees and the additional product offerings and locations for our customers will have a positive impact, enabling continual growth coast-to-coast.”
“Edgefield County outperforms similar-sized counties when it comes to industry investment and jobs. We know Portland Bolt will be successful, and we look forward to working with them on continued growth and success,” said Western SC Economic Development Partnership Chair Gary Stooksbury in the latest announcement.
The growth in Edgefield County marks the second expansion for Portland Bolt this year. An April news release announced a 41,000-square-foot expansion to the manufacturing facility in Portland, increasing it to 137,000 square feet. It will provide space for new equipment for manufacturing and the hot-dip galvanizing operation.
The parent company website lists an eclectic array of projects using Portland Bolt products, including Georgia Power Company’s Plant Bowen in Bartow County and the repair or replacement of historically covered bridges across the country.
The second facility in Edgefield County will provide an additional manufacturing line and expanded production capacity. Among the items it will produce will be large-diameter cut threading and plate fabrication, while also stocking construction fasteners.
“Portland Bolt is excited to be growing our manufacturing footprint at our South Carolina location and especially appreciates Edgefield County’s assistance and desire for this growth. We are confident our current and future employees and customers will directly benefit from this joint effort,” added Portland Bolt CEO Blake Ray.
Portland Bolt anticipates the new facility will be operational in the first quarter of 2025. Job openings will be posted on the company website’s Careers page: www.portlandbolt.com/about/careers/
