CSRA Western Outfitter Expands to Meet Demand

Like the tumbleweed that spreads seeds of growth, the store that bears the name recently expanded. Owner, Jessica Reeves only had to move a few doors down to 224 Park Avenue SE in Aiken to gain more space.

When ABD reported on TumbleWeed’s opening two years ago, Reeves was already dreaming big and looking to grow the business by offering other products and services. When the store moved four doors down into the former location of Needlepoint Cottage, it almost tripled its space.

TumbleWeed owner, Jessica Reeves and her husband, Joel have a horse farm in Aiken.

“My husband Joel got involved in the business from the beginning. What began as a place to get a full line of Western wear, including boots, hats, and shirts for adults and kids grew quickly. He started cleaning, shaping, and fitting hats,” Reeves said.

Tumbleweed has also added a leather shop to design custom belts, repair saddles, and provide or repair reins and spur straps. Think of it as a one-stop shop for apparel and tack for horse lovers.

“Yes, Aiken is a thoroughbred town, but even the English riding style customers are coming in because they also love to wear the Western style.”

The Reeves aren’t stopping with their most recent expansion. TumbleWeed frequently hosts block parties with live music and parties for customer appreciation.

They have hit on a small business formula that works. According to LinkedIn, the popularity of country music has increased the influence of Western dress and fashion trends. Celebrities and style icons have adopted Western clothing which has sparked consumer demand.

None of those trends, both nationally and locally, are lost on TumbleWeed and Reeves. After all, the CSRA is home to the horse business which brings in thousands of visitors and multi-millions to the local economy.

“We look to further expand the business and are working on rebranding to incorporate everything we offer. We are growing.”
