Evans entrepreneur hosts luxury picnics for any occasion

Like many business owners, Denise Vazquez has a demanding schedule. But Vazquez juggles not only a new business, but also a full-time job and full-time college class schedule.

Vazquez, the owner of The Posh Little Picnic, an upscale home-based event planning business, hosts elegant picnics for a variety of occasions, such as baby showers, wedding showers, birthday parties, and anniversaries, as well as wedding proposals.

She launched the business in early 2022, and demand for her services has slowly but surely increased.

“People ask me if I ever sleep, but I do when I can,” Vazquez said. “I’m a busy person all the time.”

The Posh Little Picnic offers several packages for both indoor and outdoor events, including the Posh Proposal Experience and the Posh Dream Date. She and her husband, Geovani, set up and take down picnics and provide tables, dishes, and food, among other items. They also provide artwork, pillows, and other décor.

Much of the food comes from Publix and local businesses like A Piece of Cake Bakery. Food options include charcuterie boards and sandwiches.

“You literally have to do nothing, except call me to book the appointment,” Vazquez said.

The one thing she can’t provide is alcohol because she doesn’t have a liquor license, but depending on the venue, guests can bring their own drinks. Vazquez takes pictures of her events, but she also recommends professional photographers.

Vazquez plans picnics in many local venues, such as Evans Towne Center Park, Savannah Rapids Pavilion, and Boeckh Park in Hammond’s Ferry in North Augusta.

For an additional fee, she will travel up to one hour away from her home in Evans.

Denise Vazquez runs Posh Little Picnic with help from her husband, Giovani.

Vazquez decided to start the business because, for many years, she enjoyed planning events for friends and family.

“It’s something I love to do, not what I have to do,” Vazquez said.

She hopes within three to five years, she can quit her day job and focus solely on The Posh Little Picnic. For now, Vazquez has no employees, but her husband, who serves in the U.S. Air Force, helps her with events.

“By next summer, I hope to hire some help,” she said.

Picnics can be held in a variety of locations with everything taken care of by Vazquez.

When she started the business, she struggled with pricing her services and sometimes spent more money than she made or broke even. But Vazquez has adjusted her prices to help ensure she earns a profit. Another challenge has been mastering social media marketing and selecting the correct times to post on those sites.

In the future, she plans to open a storefront and add a wedding package. Prices vary based on the type of event a customer requests. A two-hour picnic for two starts at $225.

Every customer has been pleased with her services so far. She has received countless positive Google reviews. Vazquez has been busy planning picnics, but she likes to stay busy.

“I had three back-to-back Mother’s Day picnics,” she said.

While Vazquez’s job and studying keep her busy, planning picnics is what she truly loves.

“If you love your job, you’re going to do a better job at it,” she said.
