Faith Friday: It’s all faith, no strings attached for violinist JaVonne Jones

The hymn writer penned part of the lyric in the song, Amazing Grace, that says, “…how sweet the sound.” When JaVonne Jones takes to the strings of her electric violin, that is all anyone hears: sweet sounds.

But the former public school educator wasn’t always making music. She says fear held her back. In 2020, though, at the height of the global pandemic, she resigned and decided to take a leap of faith. No strings attached.

“Faith is knowing it’s going to happen even though you have no clue how it’s going to happen,” said Jones, a native Augustan. “I began branding myself and building what is known today as JaVonne Jones Violin Music. A String Thing, the music education business arm under the umbrella of JJVM, was established in October 2015. It officially became a company in January 2021. My mission is to be light for others. I want people to look at me and see and feel God’s love. I’m not perfect by any means, but I want people to feel my heart through my music.”

Jones performs multiple genres of music with her electric violin. Her performances are strictly instrumental, with no vocals.

JaVonne Jones Violin Music, Augusta’s own urban violinist, specializes in classical, gospel, country, R&B, neo-soul, and hip-hop and provides music entertainment services, including events, music education, camps, workshops, and concerts.

Jones says God’s provision has never wavered since launching her business. In fact, faith has propelled her entrepreneurial endeavors beyond what she could have imagined.

“I’ve written a book, released original music, recorded my first music video, re-opened my music education studio, ran for political office, performed all over the country, and conducted my first violin camp, all during a pandemic,” she said. “I listen to God’s voice and I move. I stay still until I hear from Him. All business moves have been because God has led me to them.”

She said He’s led her to financial freedom also, even though life as a performer can sometimes be inconsistent. There are months where she performs 15-20 times and there are months where she barely gets five gigs.

“There was a time when I was making $75-$100 per performance,” she said. “The events started pretty slim. I began focusing on doing quality work and providing quality service. God has enlarged my territory and increased my revenue substantially. I wake up, and put in my daily work of doing contracts, and sending quotes and invoices. I create events and my own opportunities to perform and teach.

“I continue to record videos to maintain my relevance. God does the rest. Faith without works is dead. I work and He sees my diligence. Then, He enlarges my territory. In two years of being a full-time music artist, I’ve lacked nothing. I mean absolutely nothing. He will blow your mind every time.”

“Being a blessing to others fulfills my life. I want to be remembered that way as well as impart that in the lives of my family and community.”
