“I want to see Augusta at its best. Not just vibrant with shops, restaurants, activities and cool vibes, but to see it become the model of unity in diversity.” That’s not usually a quote you might hear from a video editor who specializes in producing videos for a myriad of clients. However, a closer conversation with Phillip Stanley, owner of Brightworx Media, and you can understand where his heart is through his work: people.
“I produce all sorts of videos for all sorts of clients,” said the 33-year-old native Augustan. “About us’ videos are the most popular I make, but I also love creating commercials and helping tell the story of nonprofits. Something else I offer clients is a vision strategy for their business. I walk them through different exercises to help them uncover their core values and develop their mission and vision statements.

Stanley knows something about vision and mission. His company is to be a light of creativity, compassion, and community. As an associate pastor at The Assembly at Augusta, he’s in charge of helping people tap into their faith to find their own purpose. It happened for him in 2009 when his grandfather passed away and he created a memorial video that was shown at the funeral service. Dibbling and dabbling in edits, sound bites, music, pictures, etc. was a hobby…until he noticed the emotional impact his production had on everyone in the room.
“I knew from that moment that I wanted to tell people’s stories and design emotional roller coasters for the rest of my life. After college and a couple of jobs in between, I went full-time with Brightworx in 2016.” As he built his business, though, he admits it became an idol. Idol worship is an enemy of God, according to the Bible. “I had so much riding on the success or failure of my business that I lost perspective of who I was serving and why. So here I am now, trying to rebuild. But this time, instead of building an empire, I’m looking to build the Kingdom.”

The last few years have brought trials and tribulations. Stanley says the pandemic killed his business, and he, his wife, and his son struggled for 18 months to survive. But, he kept the faith. He says it has made all the difference. “My faith is centered on my relationship with God. That relationship gives me a “why” for my day-to-day. If I can keep the right perspective, I can walk in my purpose. I believe that character is to be valued above all else. The Bible has so many verses about working as unto the Lord and I think that should be our number one priority. If the way I conduct business is a direct reflection of my faith in God, I better make sure I’m representing Him well.
