When cars come to Rick’s Paint & Body Shop and need major mechanical work, Tyler Smith used to send them to other repair shops. But he now sends them to his second business right next door: Trucks & Moore Service & Accessory Center.
Smith and his wife, Katie, owners of Rick’s located at 251 Bobby Jones Expressway, bought the other business at 245 Bobby Jones Expressway when Larry Moore, the previous owner, retired. Moore offered to sell them the business, and they decided to buy it because of its location and similarity to their business.
“It gives us a bigger footprint on Bobby Jones,” he said.
Founded in 1976, Rick’s offers a variety of services, including collision repair, glass replacement, and dent removal, as well as towing. Trucks & Moore, founded in 1995, is a full-service truck repair business that offers many services, such as oil changes, brake replacements, and transmission repairs. It also does window tinting and installs spray-in bed liners.
“Both businesses can complement each other,” Smith said.
The Smiths legally changed Trucks & Moore’s business name, but the name on the storefront will remain the same. He said the business has 20 employees.
“We run them as two completely separate businesses,” he said. “It just so happens my wife and I own both.”
