Downtown pizza business moving down the street

The downtown Mellow Mushroom is moving this summer, but don’t worry – it’s not going to go far.

According to Katie Cason, media strategist with M3 Agency in Augusta, owners Shawn and Katy Ledford plan to move their pizza business about a block and across the street, from 1167 Broad St. to 1102 Broad St., the former home of 1102 Downtown Bar & Grill. Cason said the estimated time frame is mid-June, but the official grand opening date will be announced soon.

Mellow Mushroom serves a variety of menu options, including not only pizza but also calzones, sandwiches, and salads.

In November 2021, ABD reported the couple has operated the franchise location in its current building since 2004.

“The Ledfords were leasing the old location, and they wanted to own all three of their locations in Augusta, Evans, and Aiken,” she said. “They were fortunate to find space in the same block and took advantage of the opportunity.”

The new location for Mellow Mushroom will have a different look.

Besides having a new address, the restaurant will also have an unusual look. It’s painted blue and white, and the sign has been changed.

“After almost 20 years in the old location, they were looking to update and upgrade the new one,” Cason said. “Without changing the Mellow Mushroom vibe, this new store will have a little more sophisticated feel.”
