If Mark Boyd’s new showroom at 4396 Lamkin Drive in Evans resembles a state-of-the-art automotive dealership, there’s a reason. “I spent 23 years in the car business,” said Boyd, the nation’s first Nesto franchisee, a brand designed to partner with multi-unit entrepreneurs in the home services space.
Boyd officially unveiled his innovative showroom, located near the Home Depot in Evans, in late October. The event featured representatives from Nesto, Home Depot corporate, the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, and Boyd’s team. Each “bay” in the showroom highlights a different service line, showcasing the comprehensive offerings Boyd has built under the Nesto brand.

From Cars to Home Services
Boyd moved to Augusta in 1996 to work in car sales and management, a role that required long hours but allowed him to start investing in rental properties between 2003 and 2010. “I bought this land initially to be close to Home Depot and Lowe’s, because that’s where we get our repair materials,” Boyd said.
In 2011, he became a House Doctors franchisee to handle repairs on his rental houses and provide handyman services to the community. Things changed in 2018 when Boyd left the car business to take over a Farmers Insurance office near the Columbia County government complex. Although he initially found success, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 shifted customer priorities. “Let’s don’t do Disney. Let’s do a deck,” Boyd said, describing the mindset of homeowners during travel restrictions.
As demand grew, Boyd expanded his services, obtaining a general contractor license to handle larger projects. By 2022 and 2023, his House Doctors franchise was ranked #1 nationwide. Around the same time, a private equity company acquired the House Doctors brand, adding 360 Painting to its portfolio. Boyd seized the opportunity to expand further, eventually integrating his businesses under the Nesto brand in 2024.

Scaling Up for the Community
Boyd now operates his businesses on a property strategically located near major retailers in Evans. Alongside House Doctors and 360 Painting, Boyd’s property also houses Window Gang of Augusta, The Grout Medic of Augusta, KitchenWise/ClosetWise of Augusta, and ProLift Garage Doors of Augusta.

“So, when you look at home services, we may get called to a house to do a minor remodeling or repair a deck, and then in talking to that customer, it may make sense for them to redo their closet and remodel their bathroom,” Boyd explained. “To save money, they may not want to redo the shower. Maybe we fix the tile and give them a different color grout to make it look different. And so those things just really gel well together.”
With a team of up to 30 administrative staff, project managers, and contractors, Boyd offers services ranging from kitchen and bathroom remodeling to interior and exterior painting and pressure washing. His team led by “House Doctors” is also tackling hurricane repairs, which have brought “home services to a whole different level,” Boyd said.
Innovation and the Road Ahead
As Nesto works on developing an app to let customers book services from their phones, Boyd is focused on hiring seasoned salespeople for each service line. His goal is to recruit goal-oriented professionals willing to grow the business over at least five years and earn minority ownership stakes in the brands they build.
Reflecting on his journey, Boyd remains grateful for his time in the car business. “It was a great occupation. It took really good care of my family. I don’t regret a minute of it, but I will just tell you that if I get up on Saturday, I can go play golf if I want,” he chuckled.
With a showroom designed to simplify the customer experience and an ambitious vision for the future, Boyd is intent on making an impact. “We’re just set, really, to take care of the community as much as we can with every level of home service,” he said.
