Free Access: Expo Preview: Comcast serves up fast internet for business connectivity

Twenty years before Jeremy Gill joined Comcast Business Services, he was a professional chef. That experience led to hospitality sales and finally to his work as the Director of Sales for Comcast Business. His background fits well with what Comcast has on the menu for businesses in the Augusta area.

Recently, Comcast launched an additional multi-gig Internet speed tier for residential and Comcast Business customers. Augusta is the first community in Georgia where Comcast is now delivering download speeds of 2 gigabits per second (Gbps) over the connections already existing in homes and businesses today.

Once the rollout is complete, no other provider will be able to deliver multi-gigabit speeds to more homes and businesses throughout Augusta than Comcast. This multi-gig speed tier is already available to nearly half of the marketplace, with new homes being added regularly.

In addition, Comcast Business customers will receive up to 10 times faster upload speeds than their current levels. Network data shows downstream traffic remains 14 times greater than upload, so the introduction of symmetrical upload speeds will be well in advance of demand.

“During the pandemic, we saw how vital a fast, reliable internet connection was,” said Jason Gumbs, Regional SVP at Comcast. “Our network investments will keep more Augustans connected with the speeds and technology they need.”

During the height of Covid, almost one in four Americans worked from home. Today, statistics reveal that more than 4.7 million people work remotely at least half the time in the United States. Even if you are self-employed and work from home, the consumer arm of Comcast, Xfinity can help. In addition to multi-gigabit download speeds for business, Comcast is introducing faster upload speeds to Xfinity Internet customers who choose xFi Complete.

Faster speeds will be just one of the consumer benefits made possible through Comcast’s continued efforts to evolve its entire network to 10 Gbps. This next-generation technology platform is supported by a global collaboration of companies in the Internet industry focused on building networks that stay ahead of consumer demand for connectivity. In addition to enabling multi-gig symmetrical connections, 10G efforts will provide even greater network reliability, lower latency, faster troubleshooting, and increased energy efficiency.

Comcast has served the Augusta market for 20 years. The new speeds are being rolled out to Comcast markets across the country through 2025.

Jeremy Gill and Jessica Grantham will be speaking at ABD’s Business Expo next week. Their topic will be “Comcast Business, Powering Possibilities for the CSRA.”
